Quick Start Guide

Get MS Teams Direct+ up and running in 5 minutes

Need more details? Check out our comprehensive Documentation for advanced features, troubleshooting, and detailed configuration options.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Admin access to your monday.com workspace
  • Appropriate permissions in Microsoft Teams

Tip: Have a Microsoft tenant admin perform the first installation and grant organization-wide consent so your teammates can use MS Teams Direct+ without additional approvals.

Step 1: Install from monday.com Marketplace

  1. Visit the monday.com Marketplace and search for "MS Teams Direct+"
  2. Click "Install", select your workspace, and authorize the permissions

Step 2: Connect Your Accounts

Open the MS Teams Direct+ administration page: click your profile icon (top-right) → AdministrationAdmin AppsMSTeamsDirect User Mapping. You can also get there by clicking "Use app" on the app's Marketplace listing.

You'll see a two-step connection wizard. Both connections are required:

  1. Connect monday.com — Click the "Connect" button on the monday.com card. A popup window will open to authorize the connection. Once complete, the popup closes automatically.
  2. Connect Microsoft Teams — After monday.com is connected, click the "Connect" button on the Microsoft Teams card. Sign in with your Microsoft account and grant permissions in the popup.

Once both accounts are connected, MS Teams Direct+ automatically syncs your user directories in the background. The connection wizard disappears and you'll see the User Mapping table.

Step 3: Verify User Mapping

After connecting, MS Teams Direct+ automatically matches monday.com users to Teams users when their email addresses are the same. You can check the results on the administration page:

  • Auto-matched users are ready to receive notifications immediately
  • Unmatched users can be mapped manually using the dropdown on each row, or in bulk via CSV import

If you need to map users with different email addresses, see User Mapping Options in our full documentation.

Step 4: Create Your First Workflow

MS Teams Direct+ uses monday.com Workflows to trigger notifications:

  1. Open any monday.com board and click "Automate" in the top menu
  2. Click "Add Workflow" and choose a trigger (e.g., "When person is assigned")
  3. Add an action block — search for "MS Teams Direct+" and select either:
    • Send message to assigned user — sends a direct message in Teams to the person assigned on the item
    • Send message to a Teams channel — posts to a specific Teams channel (you'll pick the team and channel)
  4. Customize your notification message using placeholders like {item_name} and {board_name}
  5. Click "Create Workflow" to activate

Step 5: Test Your Setup

  1. In your monday.com board, trigger the condition you configured (e.g., assign someone to an item)
  2. Check Microsoft Teams — you should see a notification within a few seconds

If you don't receive a notification, check the Troubleshooting section in our full documentation, or contact our support team — we're happy to help you get set up!
